You’re a bit of an ass, aren’t you? I don’t have a full-time job promoting Smalltalk (esp. in web development). I did serve as Campaign Director for Smalltalk Renaissance last year, but that’s over. I have a broad interest in programming languages and I’ve written extensively about Go and Python, too.

My “belittling” of JavaScript is a warning to the IT industry about the dangers of glomming onto this poorly designed language. It’s a public service I’m performing on behalf of the software engineering profession that I love. I’ve been in this business for over 30 years (perhaps as long as you’ve been alive) and I think I know a thing or two about the IT industry and how it works.

I appreciate the fact that you may like JavaScript. But I believe there are many things wrong with the language, far more than for any other language (and yes, shortcomings exist for Java, Python, C++, Ruby, Go, etc.). There’s nothing wrong with bringing this to the attention of the public. I feel this is my honour and privilege to do so.
