You make a good point. However, your economic argument has one unfortunate consequence: we’re in a deadlock situation where nobody does anything about climate change. Somebody has to make the first move. Who will that be?
The economic argument has been used privately by individual corporations for decades to justify pollution. When money and jobs are the only things that matter, that’s when we poison our own planet and endanger the health of future generations. When selfishness and short-term concerns trump the long view of life, that’s how we damage our future. We live for the present and we don’t give a rat’s ass about the legacy we leave behind for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
