You are quite incorrect. TIOBE places JavaScript at #6. IEEE Spectrum places JavaScript at #7. PYPL places JavaScript at #4. CodeEval places JavaScript at #6. HackerRank places JavaScript at #7.

Only RedMonk places JavaScript at #1, thanks to a critical flaw in how GitHub counts JavaScript.

(StackOverflow survey is not a language ranking but a self-selecting poll.)

In terms of jobs, Indeed.com (on Dec. 25) placed JavaScript at #3:

  1. Java — 58,856
  2. Python — 45,622
  3. JavaScript — 36,190
  4. C++ — 30,290
  5. C# — 25,616
  6. Objective-C — 17,801
  7. Ruby — 17,624
  8. PHP — 13,589
  9. Perl — 13,344
  10. Groovy — 9,732

So you see, nearly all data show that JavaScript is NOT at the top.
