Smalltalk has always been able to do large projects. The DoD's JWARS, for example, was a massive simulation of theatre-level warfare that consisted of 1.1 million lines of Smalltalk code!

The key to using Smalltalk professionally is good project management. It requires discipline such as regular backups and TDD. But this is true of ALL software projects, not just for Smalltalk.
