The entire premise of your article is based on web programming or web services. That seems awfully parochial.
There is so much more to the IT industry. In addition to web, there are desktop, mobile, games, robotics, Internet of Things, cloud computing, numerical analysis, Big Data, virtual reality, machine learning and natural language processing, systems programming (device drivers and embedded software), and so on. In all of these areas, PHP either cannot play or cannot compete.
By all accounts, Java is the most popular and widely used programming language. Its unbelievable versatility is only matched by C++ and Python. Why is this even a question?
(I don’t particularly like Java, but there’s no denying the truth. I would prefer Python.)
