Rust is, indeed, a major breakthrough in software engineering. It will play a huge role in the future. However, it is very unlikely to displace the popular languages in use today: Python, Java, C#, C++, JavaScript.

Most software developers want tools that are easy to use. Rust doesn't qualify. It imposes a significant cognitive load on most people.

Remember, most people in the I.T. industry aren't particularly good at their jobs. They've had poor training. They don't take engineering seriously; they're in it for the money (career, employment).
