On Behalf of Most iPhone Users

Save your money!

The regular iPhone is a very expensive product. Unless you absolutely need the Pro features, it’s foolish to spend hundreds of dollars more for the Pro model.

Looking back at the previous five years, the Pro model offered a few additional features over the regular model:

  1. 120Hz display (in iPhone 13 and later).
  2. Telephoto camera.
  3. Faster processor.
  4. USB 3 (in the case of iPhone 15).
  5. Titanium frame (in the case of iPhone 15).
  6. Action button (in the case of iPhone 15).

For the vast majority of iPhone users, it’s difficult to see why any of these, or even all of these, are worth hundreds of dollars more.

The telephoto camera is the only standout feature and even there, I question its utility. In the 8+ years that I owned the OnePlus One, I rarely needed telephoto (maybe only in one or two instances). I used the phone as a point-and-shoot with no fussing over camera controls such as zoom, aperture-priority, shutter-priority, ISO, etc.

Your mileage may vary but I will bet you don’t really need telephoto, either.

We all like to think that we are pro photographers or pro anything, but the truth is that most of us can’t be bothered to fuss with our phones. The regular iPhone is more than sufficient for our needs.

It’s the same story with the upcoming iPhone 16. Apple is going to add a Capture button (ooooh!). The big selling feature will be AI and an overhauled Siri, but these will trickle down to previous iPhone models, as well.
