No programming model is perfect. Regardless, Smalltalk programming has been immensely successful for more than four decades. Tons of great software have been written.

Concurrency in Smalltalk is an implementation issue, not a language design issue. Admittedly, demand for this hasn't been sufficiently strong to create a concurrent Smalltalk, though GemTalk Systems' GemStone/S comes awfully close.
