I’m a retired software developer with over 20 years experience. I started way back in the 1980s. If pair programming had been standard industry practice back then, I would not have entered this profession.
To me, programming is like writing a novel, or painting a picture, or sculpting a statue. It’s a creative process that exists solely in my own mind, not to be shared. I need to think in private and in quiet and without distraction in order to ensure the maximum flow of my creative juices.
I can only thank God that I’m retired now. Pair programming takes all the fun out of programming.
