IDEs have always been a matter of individual taste. I’m not a fan of monolithic IDEs. In fact, many developers prefer to use simple text editors like Vim, Sublime Text, Geany, Atom, Notepad++, Brackets, etc. They employ a variety of separate tools, often from the command line.

I find the Pharo IDE quite elegant. Of course, YMMV.
