I seriously doubt that there are more Mathematica users than Smalltalk. RedMonk does NOT measure usage; it measures “popularity” according to some arbitrary metrics (just like TIOBE, PYPL, and IEEE Spectrum).
Practically everyone I talk to knows about Smalltalk. Obviously, we talk to different kinds of people.
My tactic is not really “shady.” Look at how everyone in the world markets their products. They stretch the truth. They exaggerate. This applies to Apple, Microsoft, IBM, BMW, General Motors, Coca-Cola, A & W, Sony, etc.
I’m intellectually honest because “truth” is always subject to interpretation. What I say can be the truth from the right perspective.
Clearly, you have a different interpretation of the truth, and that’s perfectly fine. I am entitled to my interpretation.
