I’m writing this on my main computer, a 2011 Mac mini (running OS X Yosemite) with:
- 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core I5
- 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory
- AMD Radeon graphics with 256MB
- 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive
- 802.11n Wi-Fi (more than fast enough for 35+ Mbps d/l broadband speed)
- USB 2.0
After 5 years, it’s still going strong and I feel no need to upgrade. My Mac mini is fast enough (and capacious enough) for general use:
- email and web surfing
- word processing, blogging
- image and video editing
- running VirtualBox VMs (Windows 7 and Linux)
- dual boot with Windows 7 Boot Camp
- software development in Python, Go and Smalltalk, as well as Java for Android and Objective-C for iOS
- FTP and remote sessions
So I wonder…what the hell are people doing with their Macs that require them to upgrade so often???
(I don’t play video games on my computer.)
